Collagen for assisting with surfing join pain

It's no secret that as we age the old joints don't function quite as well as they did when we were in our 20's.

As surfers we put our joints under a lot of pressure, especially in the knees and arms, which can lead to frustrating sessions where we are not functioning at 100%.

Surfing collagen

There is hope however, with many surfers now taking collagen to help combat joint pain. As well as improving our joint functions by rebuilding collagen that is lost as we age, it has also show to have very positive effects on hair, skin and general gut health.

It is easy to get lost in the myriad options of collagen to buy once you have decided to take the plunge, but here are some useful tips:
  • marine collagen is generally higher quality
  • make sure it has a low dalton weight so your body can actually absorb the collagen (less than 3,000 is what you are aiming for)
  • ensure it is sustainably sourced collagen from wild fish - farmed fish are more susceptible to disease
  • look for any additives or fillers that may be used - it is best to go for the pure collagen products
If you suffer from joint pain, we hope these tips can help you evaluate whether collagen may assist in maximising your surfing enjoyment.
