I had the pleasure of meeting Bronson recently at Troy Riley's stag-do; we had already penciled him in for a bro-fi le for this issue, and when I was discussing it with him he was purely humbled and stoked we had chosen to do something on him. As with all big nights, a lot of shit talking was going down and Bronson's H-Bay Jamma mates were flowing some classic tales about the man himself. One such tale that stuck in my mind was of Bronson laying out four gang-members after he tried to wash their windshield at an intersection, the tough guy foursome hopped out of the car to harass Bronson for touching their wagon and all four ended up on there arses for their troubles. You know you're dealing with a legendary character that for one has the balls to take them all on, and two to actually pull it off!

Fellow Jamma Troy Riley sums up his good mate with these apt words- 'Bronson's a Hawkes Bay surfer with a big heart and even bigger balls. A true classic Kiwi that charges in any situation be it surfing, party or at work. Core to the bone and proud of his roots (Hawke's Bay up bringing), Bronson is a straight up loyal guy that will always have your back. Like most core NZ surfers he escapes to Indo through the colder months to enjoy the warm water and a break from work'.
party or at work.
Full Name -
Bronson Mark Primmer
DOB -
15/01/84
Nickname -
Blossom, my boss called me this on the fi rst day I started work. I also get called Poo-skin.
Occupation -
Gib-stopper/plasterer
Dream job -
Pro-surfer obviously, second choice a pimp because you get to wear a fur coat and pimp, hahaha!
Favourite music -
Gangsta music, New Zealand Dub and anything with a phat bass line! Gangsta is poetry!
Who is the most under-rated person
from your area and why? Kane Clark, I've seen him get eight second barrels easily at Rock-star.
In your opinion are some sponsored guys getting more than they are worth?
No, I don't think so; all the guys who I know that are sponsored fully rip!
You just bought an Instant Kiwi scratchy and won $25,000, its not enough to buy a house or send all the bro's to the Mentawai's how does it get spent besides paying off debt?
Throw the biggest Jamma party known to mankind, shout Ranga to theknock-shop. All the boy's would be VIP at the party, and I would pay their rent for the week after the party so they could recover. Anything that was left over I would put into the Hawkes Bay grommet's surf account or use it to go get lost in Indo.
What's the most Bro-y thing a bro has done for you?
My mate Shaun Streeter, I was fi rst out of school and working, he went to my parents and told them I was going to Indo with him, from then on I was hooked!
Where were you born and where did you grow up?
Central Hawkes Bay; then moved up to the big smoke- Havelock North, ha-ha!
When and where was your first surf?
Westshore whitewash at eight years of age.
What's your favourite wave/break?
River mouths- sucky, standing up and reeling down the bar! Nothing beats surfing with your mates and making your own rules ha-ha.
What's your local?
Cray Bay, and Haumoana.
Who do you normally surf with and whom did you grow up surfi ng withthat was an influence?
I surf with Jeremy Evans and any other Jamma around that's keen. My Dad and Steve Riley were my biggest influences when it came to surfi ng. Dad towed me out the back with his legrope before I could surf. I always looked up to Jerry Evans, Troy Riley, Wayne Eller and Dads good mate Brendon Young. Brendon always gave me good tips and advise on the technical side of surfing.
What's the gnarliest thing you have ever seen?
The after-math of the Bali Bombing, I had just left Lakey Peak to catch a flight the day after it happened. Words can't explain the devastation.
What's the silliest thing you've ever
done? Trying to roll a car over with five others, then deciding not to do it. I fell under the car and the car landed on my foot, breaking seven bones, four fractures and dislocating all my toes, having to spend eight weeks of the summer in a cast. Have you tried to walk pissed on the sand in crutches?!
What's a good night out for Bronson?
A good crew of the boys, loose in the city, running-a-muck, and hours of laughter.
Tell us about your Tattoo-
I had the New Zealand map done while living in Aussie, then moved home and got the low-pressure system done, it's of the cyclone from the summer of 2008, making it the best summer on record for Hawkes Bay and probably the whole of the East Coast of NZ.
Shout outs -
Mum and Dad for always being there, Steve Riley at Boardzone for looking after me with surfboards and all the HB Jamma's.
