One of the cool parts of being a surf reporter is waking up in the morning and seeing some of the amazing ways swells behave around our awesome coastline.
Thought you might be interested in this one, where a completely flat surf weekend on the Kapiti jumps to life Saturday morning as the solid east groundswell (which provided swell from Northland to Dunedin this week) pushed through the Cook Strait and wrapped an amazing 180 degrees into Titahi Bay.
So a flat surf day was interrupted but wrapping 2-4ft sets fanned by a brisk south offshore wind - notice the cam image above (Pete spotted this one, thanks Pete) showing the swell hitting the North end and rifling off with a nice little right hander - when this happens the bay completely changes character. Cool.

This was the end of a NW wind swell. No way can an East ground swell push into T-Bay from the Cook Straight! If it was wrapping round it would break at the southern end.There was also swell on Saturday further North.

Not possible. West swell. I used to live on the K coast, even 5 meter south coming through cooks straight would only just make surfable conditions on the west coast.

No way can an east swell wrap into the west coast, that was NW groundie it was breaking all along the kapiti coast.

swell can definitely wrap around like that. deserts and Ekas on Lombok, the swell wraps in ova 180 to get in there.

Mate, there is noooooo way in hell an East swell wraps in here. You need a macking South swell to hit the north end, let alone an average sized East swell.
