Fortunately the ocean played its part and so did Harley, taking home the crown and a sweet purse of over $20,000 for the season. For those of you that have had the privilege of watching Harl surf at our Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour events, flawless is the only word that comes to mind.

I look up2 him because he always gives more then he will ever receive, God Father of longboarding is on the buzzer, before Fitz came along no one could bottom turn in NZ..and that being serious..plus he has won alot!!!and has always given back to the sport and is still doing so today through Coaching the Maori Development, NZ surfers Rep, school programs and has trained me into what I am today. If I could pick our top 5 NZ longboarders of all time, he along with Lyndon, Darren, Chris Ransley and Wayne Parkes would be hard to go past.

I remember my old man telling me that the legends in any community are the folk that live well, set high standards and treat the little people with respect. And by little people, I'm not only talking about stature. I am one of those little people in the Giz surfing community. A pretty average surfer at best. But Dan you are always smiling and acknowledging those around you, sharing the surf spirit, regardless of their surfing pedigree. I reckon that is a damn fine thing.

Dan, your making some pretty bold statements about the recent history of New Zealand longboarding. I understand your admiration for your local heroes, but to make statements such as "before Fitz came along no one could bottom turn in NZ" is not only ignorant, but extremely disrespectful to those longboarders who have paved the way for you young guys. Young being your downfall here, as your knowledge of the surfers who have dropped out of your competitive cricle from outside the Gisborne district well before you made it out of your first heat is obviously minimal.I recall one event inparticular at Waihi beach, Fitz was eneterd and was schooled by a red hot Owen Barnes on the art of the bottom turn, as Owen surfed a near perfect heat including a mind blowing 10 point ride, a ride that is still talked about by all in attendance. You my young friend would not long have been out of nappies.Owen on the other hand was schooled by his local heroes such as Phil Griffin. Bongo is a legend on the longboard, with one hell of a bottom turn, he in turn was shooled by the likes of Eric Burgraff, an old school local with one of the deepest bottom turns going around.... need I go on?I guess what I am trying to say is Fitz is a great longboarder, and what he lacks in style he makes up for in power! I respect your opinion with regard to your heroes, but the god father of NZ longboarding is a huge call. Perhaps the god father of the New Zealand Longboard Division at the Nationals might be a more appropriate title for the big fella. Maybe try keeping your statements as personal opinions as opposed to unsubstantiated facts...

Hi,Thanks guys for the entertaining comments!I’m definitely not the God father of Longboarding, nor am I interested in being. There have been many talented longboarders, and many more to come I’m sure.I feel privileged to have been part of NZ longboarding, my achievements came from a lot of hard work and perseverance. I gained many life skills from surfing, and am now working hard to give something back.Is your opinion valued if you don’t put your name to it??Goober you made some personal comments about me, I’m not sure if you’re qualified to make such comments??Fitz, ex longboarderMichael Fitzharris

Wow this has got a few people wound up and in need of a cup of tea and a bikky.....Fitz is a top longboarder, rolemodel and general good joker!!!! He certainly has given back to the sport in such a huge way beyond words! There are so many since the resurgence of longboarding in this country that have made major impact with teh traction to date and some of these people were not only letting their surfing do the talking they were at the coal face helping judging, running comps, sharing ideas and helping the general progression! I can't list all of these people but here are some names that come to mind: Phil Griffin, Rod Rust, Dave Murden, Nicky Murden, Mark O'Conner, Wayne Arthur, Daryn McBride,Noel Creavy, Guy Rencher, Mark Shanks, Kelly Ryan, Caroline Ryan, Mantis, The King Family, Daisy Day, Pauline Pullman, Dave Elliott (R.I.P), Brendan Young, Micky T plus many more and others mentioned above. The young crew Dan Proctor, Matt Cockaine, Sam Guthrie, Dylan Barnfield etc are great rolemodels to a new generation and they have been helped along by the longboarding community and are now giving back to that community by fulfilling their potential as great longboarders and great people. I hope one day we see all of the above names reunited at one of the contests as their are some exceptional individuals who we haven't seen around for some time on the contest scene but still have so much to offer in and out of the water!!Keep up the good work Dan and would be great if you could run some interviews with NZ legends also!

Goober what is your game plan? You show to be a gutless prick who has nothing better to do but criticise anything Procky has to say on both blogs he has put up on surf2surf (not only with him either as comments show with Fitz). On a previous one you say to be a 17 year old boy, claiming to know Procky's gf, and now you think you know fitz so well. If its all a joke to you then you wouldn't care but to show who you are by naming yourself!

to the above post "vnadeen"or G CAN GET fU--- -never critised Procky not once , never said a bad word about him nor anyone else--you may need to go back to school and learn to read UNLESS YOU CAN POINT ME TO THE BULLSHIT YOU TALK OFF .there is a difference in having a diffrent opinion to what is written -if you want to agree on everything someone writes just go right ahead and stick your lips to ass and suck a little harder~Proctor rips but I like traditional, fitzy does a mean bottom turn but so do others
